Finished Peace

NaKniSweMoDo #5 Modeled Pattern: Peace by Norah Gaughan Yarn: Adrienne Vittadini Marisa in 708, 8.5 skeins Needles: Addi Turbos US 6 Modifications: Modifications: I started the waist decreases almost immediately (on row 5) and added in two more decreases/increases. Unfortunately I made that decision at the armhole of the right front and had to rip back to row 4. Also, I eliminated the ribbing as edging, and did two rows of single crochet on all edges, including the neckline. Used crochet loops as buttonholes instead of the existing eyelets. Date Started: May 7, 2009 Date Finished: May 30, 2009 Time: 4.25 hours on the right front pre-rip, 5.25 hours for the right front post-rip, 9 hours for the back, 6 hours for the left front, 4.25 hours for the first sleeve, 4.25 hours so far for the second sleeve, 4.75 hours for finishing for a total of 37.75 hours. And in case anyone was worried that Lani was having trouble sleeping while I was working on Peace and not Brad's sweater, here she is helping: peace pillow helping

Catch up post

So, I flew home on Thursday. Relatively uneventfully. I tried to drop by work for a few minutes on Friday (being done with all of my hours for the pay period, which has one week left in it), but that didn't work out so well (keeping it just to a few minutes, that is).  So, Saturday brings us to the body of Peace blocking: peace blocking I'm almost done with the first sleeve. There was lots of admiring of Lani lani cute Then I decided it was time for her summer haircut. So here she is all fluffilicious pre-haircut And after the deed was done - this isn't even all of the fur, and yet it's enough for at least another dog. The funny thing is that she just weighed in a 10.3 ounces, a testament to lots of hand feeding (she was in for another liver panel, no results yet). I'm pretty sure that we took that .3 pounds off again, at least. two dogs But don't worry, she's still cute still cute Then I discovered an error in the chart for Brad's sweater... :( chart error Of course, I had to rip out. And then this morning, I thought I had screwed up, and ripped out 14 rows again, and it turns out that the repeats of the chart just don't line up with the edges. So my second rip was for nothing. Ugh. But Brad started painting today: Brad painting And in fact, he's now done. I have NO idea how he finished that entire room in one day. I was also working on the bedroom, but in the textiles - I spent almost the entire day ironing fabric for curtains.  I used an entire can of spray starch. I got a fair amount of sewing done too, but now my machine needs some servicing (the threader is not working now).  Back to knitting!

Success with the front

I did in fact manage to finish up the front. We have Brad's graduation reception tomorrow night, and then I leave Thursday morning for a week-long business trip. Coming with me - the boring back of Peace, and hopefully I'll get to the left front as well. So here's the front: Right front It turns out that the "buttonholes" are actually the eyelets, and I'm not really liking that. Also, the bind-offs make me want to do a crochet edge to smooth out the neckline, so I'll crochet some loops for buttons at that time as well. Which gives me more time to agonize between the two purple options of buttons (which puts me right back at the same place that I was when I left Thea's house). Maybe I'll know once the rest of the sweater exists. :)

Rough start to Peace

I got in a lot of knitting on the way to and from the NH Sheep and Wool. Unfortunately, I should have listened to my instinct and not knit 3.5" straight before starting waist decreases. I got all the way up to the armholes before I admitted to myself that the waist shaping was way too high for me. So, here we are pre-rip: pre-rip And today (before my evening knitting marathon), with four choices of buttons. Thea let me raid her vintage button collection, which got me the two buttons in the middle. The ones on the left were the rejects from Broderie, and on the right are from Stitches West. I'm knitting the front right piece of Peace first (to get the most interesting piece out of the way before I travel). The pattern doesn't have intentional button-holes, but I think I'll put them in. So, I kind of need to pick buttons sooner than later... help! buttons Here's the sweater. So, which buttons?
