Finished Grannie Smith Cardigan

Otherwise known as NaKniSweMoDo #4 Pattern: Grannie Smith Cardigan by Melissa Wehrle Yarn: Rowan Kidsilk Night in 613, 4.5 skeins Needles: Addi Turbos US 3 Modifications: Cast on same amount of stitches as the eventual bust stitch count, then decreased and increased for waist shaping (original pattern just increases).  Added length to the body and sleeves.  Used six buttons instead of five. Date Started: March 25, 2009 Date Finished: April 21, 2009 Time: 12.5 hours for the back, 7 hours for the left front, 5.5 hours on the right front, 5.75 hours for the first sleeve, 5.5 hours for the second sleeve, 8.25 hours for finishing for a total of 44.5 hours. I do love this sweater - the kidsilk is divine to wear.  It will be a long time (if ever) before I knit a sweater in it again though, just because frogging is not an option.  For this reason alone, I wouldn't recommend this knit to a beginner - this worked out well for me because I'm familiar with how to make sweaters that fit me, and all of the calculations I worked out on paper (well, actually in excel) meant that no adjustments were made on the needles.

So close!

I just have one sleeve/side left to seam: Here's a close-up of the buttons, which I got for $1.50 (total!) at Stitches West, with no intent for them.  They magically matched this sweater: Now I just need to be less lazy tonight (unlike last night) and finish up the seaming!

Quick trip to sleeve island

I'm in FL right now (flying back tonight), but I did take some pictures before I left - here's the first Grannie Smith sleeve blocking: first sleeve I finished up knitting the second sleeve on the way out here (3 hour delay in Atlanta, but YAY for not getting stranded like a whole bunch of other people!) I already knit up the edging and blocked the body: edging So, I just have to block the second sleeve, set in and seam both sleeves and the body, sew on the buttons, and buttonhole stitch the buttonholes (they're double layered). Not too bad - definitely going to make my deadline of the 24th (when I go back to FL). :)

Plugging along on Grannie Smith

I had a misstep with the Grannie Smith Cardigan - after I finished the first front, I decided that the scoop neck needed to be half an inch lower to accommodate the edging that will be knit on later. I dutifully put the front in the freezer (and Brad didn't even blink or ask any questions). Several hours later, I attempted frogging, winding on to a bare roll: frogging As you can see, at some point I gave up and cut off what was left. Anyway, I eventually got back to where I wanted to be, and re-knit the top. Oh, and I knocked out the right front while I was freezing the left, so here I am: fronts My plan is to work on the button bands and necklines next, as I do have a two day work trip next week, and sleeves are portable.

Finished back

After a knit-filled weekend, I've got a finished back: back I love the color! The lace pattern is simple, so this is almost like knitting stockinette (which I don't think I could do by feel in KSH). Small needles, though. :) (US 3) I think I can finish this before my heavy travel at the end of April, but I need to keep up my current pace! Anyway, enough about knitting, how cute is Lani snuggling with Brad? snuggling

Starting Sweater #4

I know, I still owe FO pics of Lily - in truth, she's not even blocking yet. I'll take care of that this weekend and try to get FO pics on Monday. I did start on the next sweater, the Grannie Smith Cardigan (Rav link). I got to the waist of the back piece: back start This one is going to take a little longer, as it's on size 3 needles. Maybe not the best choice considering how much travel I have at the end of April - I basically need to be done by the 22nd. And with that Cookie A book coming soon... Luckily, I have a nice weekend planned of doing absolutely nothing but lying around and knitting (gotta rest up, you know!) so hopefully that will help me get off to the right start. :) I am loving the blue, and the Kid Silk Night has just the right amount of sparkly to be pretty without being obnoxious.
