Miralda Shawl start

So I have been doing a little bit of knitting – I started the Miralda shawl by Nancy Bush. I’m using three shades of Red Fish Dyeworks silk, as there are distinct pattern changes in the shawl. It also has the advantage of being knit bottom up, so the rows get shorter instead of longer. Yay!

I’ve finished the first color section:

I’m on to the second, but I’m also going to be starting some socks soon. There are lots of nupps now, and this shawl is not a good purse project. I’m trying to get back in the habit of knitting now that I’m not on travel working ridiculous hours, and it would help to have something handy at all times.

1. Finish Thelonious socks (this is kinda cheating because I just finished them, but since I finished them in June and am just late to post monthly goals… whatever). Done
2. Start Miralda shawl. Done
3. Blog at least two times a week. FAIL

July
1. Make progress on Miralda shawl.
2. Start socks of some kind.
3. Blog at least two times a week. This time it will actually work since I won’t be on a business EVERY SINGLE WEEK.

I am off for a long weekend with Brad in Michigan for July 4th – I hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday!

Eight Years of Marriage

Eight years ago, we got married. I am continually shocked that Brad puts up with me, especially given what can only be described as an insane work schedule (I’m not even home today), which just might get even more wackadoodle, but I digress… The traditional gift for eight years is bronze or pottery, and well, we don’t want any of those things. So we called our trip to the Cape this past weekend as our gift.

Though it just occurred to me… that Dos Equis Amber on draft (great Mexican restaurant called Acapulco in Yarmouth) is bronze colored… perfect!

Giving Lani her annual haircut was a nightmare. She normally doesn’t like it, but submits, but this time, she fought us every second of the way. I ended up rough cutting her with scissors:

Then went after her with clippers (that was the “fun” part). This pile is just the second cuts, so something like half of all the fur that came off of her in the first place.

She’s much happier and cooler now, though:

Despite this somewhat disturbing lack of understanding that oxygen is needed for life:

* I of course checked that she was breathing before going for the camera, and removed the bag immediately afterward.

Random Wednesday

1. Late on Wednesday, but it still counts, darn it.

4. I’m home all this week. It turns out that I’m out of practice with that whole at a desk all day thing… going a little stir-crazy.

5. It’s really hot here, and my running is suffering because of that as well as some ridiculous allergies.

6. My nephew now giggles – it’s awesome.

Back home

So this intensive work travel isn’t really working so well for keeping up the knit-blog, especially since the sum total of my knitting is rather pathetic at the moment. There was a bit, though, at a bar by the beach:

I have to go back to Delaware/Maryland a few more times, more or less weekly, for just a little while longer – but luckily, soon my hotel will be a bit more fun, as they’ve started cleaning up the hot tub for the season:

But now I’m back at home, for I think a week (I really have no idea, it’s kind of crazy). I’ve been getting reacquainted with my nephew, who has been resisting sleep lately (win one for Auntie Kris!):

(The toilet paper in the background is because the pollen has been kicking my butt and we temporarily ran out of kleenex, lest y’all think I normally keep toilet paper in the living room).

My mom and her husband, Roy, have been visiting:
