Whirlwind Weekend
My sister, Ed, and I went shopping all day on Friday. We were all in search of adult clothing – I never want to be in the position again where I have to frantically shop because I have a business trip or a meeting to go to. We all got some great stuff, but were pretty darned exhausted. My sister went with me to JoAnns to pick out some fabric for a valence in my kitchen – now that my floors are absolutely gorgeous, I feel the definite need to class up the rest of kitchen and dining room.
I dropped Michele and Ed off at the airport on Saturday morning. So sad to see them go! Luckily, we’ll be in their neck of the woods in a couple of weeks for Brad’s spring break, so we’ll see them really soon.
I battled empty house syndrome by meeting up with Miyon on Saturday to run a few errands, then we met Jessica, Krys, Cora, and Kristen at Starbucks to knit.

I got a lot done on River – I finished the 15th repeat at Starbucks, and finished the 16th later that night. I just need to finish the edge rows of the pattern, and then knit the beaded knot that my sister and I both know she’ll probably never use, but I’d like to provide anyway. I might not actually get to this until Thursday’s knit night, though.
When we were driving back to my car, Miyon mentioned that she was sure it had hailed the night before, due to the noise. I scoffed (we live in San Diego!) and then it started coming down with hail right then! I still didn’t believe it until Miyon pointed out the ice on the ground. It hailed again later when I was home – very weird. The ice only lasts for a couple of minutes on the ground.
Yesterday, after picking up Brad at the airport (yay, no more empty house!) I started in on the curtain for the traverse rod for the sliding glass door in the dining room. I’ve had the fabric for well over a year, and the curtain rod for almost as long, but it took the momentum of all of the work that Ed and Michele did in my house to actually get me sewing.
Pleater tape is not as fun as it looks.

I got Lani approval of the fabric.

Every time I turned around, she was in it again.

The reason for pleating the pleater tape prior to sewing it to the curtains is to see what the final length will be fully stretched. I had the perfect length of pleater tape for the fabric. Unfortunately, when sewing together my four panels, I lost more fabric than I thought matching the tone-on-tone stripes perfectly, and I had to change my pleats. Now I have a bunch of excess fabric on the side that I need to cut off. Then I need to sew both side seams, press everything, hem the bottom, and I’m done! I’ll take pictures then.
In the meantime, I’m going to keep up with this whole sewing/spring-cleaning urge – it comes so rarely! I’ll check in when I’ve got something interesting (sewing or knitting), but I’ll spare you guys reports of my closet cleaning. Expect sporadic posting for a couple of weeks.
