Marisa’s baby blanket
I had the privilege of finding out about Marisa’s pregnancy early, as she was here in New England attending Rhinebeck, and wanted to let me know why she wouldn’t be drinking any wine.
This meant that I found out way before Miyon, however, and so by the time she got the news, I had planned this super ambitious project, bought the yarn, and completed some of it, just hoping that she would be okay with all of it (I thought she’d like a joint project). She took it in good stride (I’m always surprised when people agree to things rather than say I’m crazy), and I mailed her yarn to San Francisco for her Christmas visit, so as not to run into any potential US/UK mail problems (an issue for us in the past). Miyon gave me her completed portion when I saw her in May (seamed!
) and I came home to the task of finishing it up (I was a wee bit behind in my own seaming) and knitting on the border. I’m so pleased with the way that it came out:

Pattern: Alphabet Blanket from Debbie Bliss’s Baby Knits Book
Needle: Addi Turbo US 3
Yarn: Mondial Cotton Soft Speciale Baby Solid, 5 skeins of 920, 3 skeins each of 915 and 916 (I had about half balls left of each color)
Modifications: Knit individual blocks and seamed, rather than knit the whole thing as one piece. I added eyelets around each block, so there are double eyelets once seamed. Also, I added 12 rows of plain knitting (6 above and 6 below) each letter, as the blocks looked too squat. That might have been a result of our row gauge, but I never double checked.
Started: November 23, 2007
Finished: June 14, 2008
Time: Knitting the blocks took 33.75 hours, seaming was 7 hours, and the knitting of the border was 16 hours, for a total of 57.25 hours (this doesn’t include the knitting or seaming of the last two rows of blocks).

So cute! I’m hoping to give Marisa what I knit her soon so I can share them on the blog.
Absolutely beautiful! A lovely gift!
What a fantastic gift you’ve made! The colors are perfect.
Baby Jake and I just love it! Thank you so very much
It looks gorgeous and so soft. A fabulous gift
Freaking heck I am so behind on your blogs. URGH management sucks sometimes. What was I talking about again…?
Oh yeah, blanket, YAY it is the alphabet. You wouldn’t believe how many mini-panics I had while making the thing. It’s very good that I’m better at my letters than my maths. And it looks so very good on that chair I am surprised it made it to Marisa’s after all.
Also, Goth Spire is GorgeoSO! Nummers.
